There are also guesthouses, Bed and Breakfast places, and farmhouse accomodation. As Iceland becomes more enticing as a tourist destination it really is necessary to be prepared and book ahead. Cheap Accommodation in KeflavikFor the night before an early morning flight or on the evening of arrival, Bed and Breakfast Keflavik Airport is the name of a new Bed and Breakfast on the former US military base, which is a short drive from the airport. Breakfast is included and served between 4.30am and 9.30am which allows for early starts! Double room with private bathroom costs 88 euros (US$ 129). Rooms with shared bathrooms available at 66euros (US$97). All booking is online through agents. Reykjavik HotelA charming old-fashioned hotel, the Pheonix is in the centre of the city with everything in walking distance, including the harbour from where you can go whale watching. The hotel may only have 2 stars, but it is a great place to stay and Jon, the owner, is full of information about where to go and what to do on your holiday in Iceland. There are 9 en-suite rooms each with Internet access. Double room costs 150 euros (US$220) and includes breakfast. Hotel Phoenix Laugavegur 140, 105 Reykjavik Tel: +354 511 5002 Hotel in Southern Iceland3 star Hotel Klaustur is an unattractive squat grey building but it is in a great position for sight-seeing in southern Iceland. It is halfway between the glaciers Myrdalsjokull and Vatnajokull . From here it is an easy drive to Skaftafell national park and Lakagigar - all worth a visit. A further 2 hour drive will reach Jokulsarlon on the coast, where icebergs break off and float out to sea and seals can be seen at the edge of the glacier. Double room is 132 euros (US$194) Hotel Klaustur Klausturvegur 6 880 - Kirkjubæjarklaustur Tel: +354 487 4900 Cheap Accommodation in Southern IcelandTraditional Guesthouse Hali is near Jokulsarlon and in a spectacular setting. They offer double rooms, family rooms and one single room. All rooms share bathrooms. Double room with breakfast is 60euros (US$88). There are cooking facilities for snacks, and a nearby restaurant. Rent a horse or hike around the island enjoying the protected nature reserve and wild life sanctuary. The car ferry Baldur stops over at the island twice a day during summer. Hotel Flatey’s 13 rooms are tastefully converted warehouses next to the old market square, with views out to sea.
